ALS - Part 7 - Naltrexone

Naltrexone: A “Not So Standard” Medical Practice

Low-dose Naltrexone has been researched as a treatment for ALS (Naltrexone--An Amazing "Low Dose" Treatment for so Many Diseases).  Researchers claim a 100% positive response to low doses (3-5 mg per night) of Naltrexone which halts the progression of the disease.  This particular treatment (called LDN Therapy) is not standard ALS protocol and is controversial in the medical field.  In the 1980’s, Naltrexone was originally approved as a drug to help narcotic addicts by blocking receptors in the brain. Dr. Bernard Bihari theorizes that LDN therapy boosts the immune system and that it is an immune deficiency that plays a role in a disease like ALS (Naltrexone--An Amazing "Low  Dose" Treatment for so Many Diseases).  While this particular treatment uses a drug, it is not considered a “standard” medical approach and has not been adopted by mainstream medical establishment.
